BRIDGES

Dental bridges are appropriately named in that they serve the same function and purpose as a road bridge, that is to span the gap between two areas.  In this instance, the area is the space between teeth. A fixed partial denture is cemented or attached to abutment teeth to create the "bridge" for missing teeth.
